Understand P3M and keep moving

P3M creates a project operating model: the methodology layers, recurring practices, meetings, accountabilities, decision rights, records, safeguards, and first actions needed to run a particular project. It is more than a methodology label and less than a task-management system.

A project name and a short description of the intended outcome, main parties, constraints, expected change, and consequences of failure are enough. Known team members are useful but optional because ownership can be resolved after compilation.

The project profile describes the conditions around the work, such as criticality, change tolerance, complexity, regulation, and team scale. The methodology stack is the operating response P3M compiles from those conditions and the selected industry safeguards.

The current Agile Delivery layer uses recognizable Scrum and Kanban rhythms, including iteration planning, daily coordination, refinement, review, and retrospective. It does not yet claim full Scrum conformance because a full Scrum implementation must preserve the complete role, accountability, artifact, commitment, and event model.

P3M governs CPM schedule development, update cadence, evidence, review, ownership, and recovery actions. Network, float, and simulation calculations remain in a specialist scheduling tool. This boundary is shown as workflow capability rather than calculation capability.

Yes. Stage-Gate can govern major authorization decisions, Agile Delivery can govern short-cycle learning and delivery, and CPM can govern the logic-linked milestone schedule. P3M explains the responsibility of each layer so the combination does not become an unnamed hybrid.

The compiled model identifies the accountabilities required by its practices. Unfilled means no real person has been assigned yet, not that P3M expects a fixed team size. One person may cover several accountabilities, and specialists or contributors can participate without holding a governance accountability.

No. Job titles describe a person's organizational context, while P3M accountabilities describe who owns a project outcome or decision. A Planning Engineer, Product Manager, Lead Developer, or HSE Lead can hold one or more P3M accountabilities without changing their job title.

Use the Activation Plan at the bottom of the model. Confirm owners, commit the first two-week actions, schedule required events, publish governed records, and connect communication and capacity evidence. The checklist stays attached to that model version.

Treat it as a launch sequence, not a status report. Give each action an owner and date, confirm its required inputs, and make sure the named output record is produced. After launch, the full practices-by-phase section becomes the operating plan.

P3M remains authoritative for methodology, approved accountabilities, decision policy, and operating-model versions. Connected platforms contribute factual observations or execute approved setup. External changes become evidence or proposals rather than silently rewriting the governed model.

Notion is the collaborative knowledge and governed-record workspace. Google Calendar carries required meetings, participants, invitations, attendance, and transcript context. Slack contributes identities, channels, collaboration context, and notifications. Float contributes availability, allocations, time off, and actual effort. Linear carries approved work packages and returns factual projects, cycles, issues, assignments, estimates, and delivery progress.

The provider model, data authority rules, connection states, sync ledger, Float and Linear inbound connectors, and version-aware activation handoffs are implemented. Full OAuth connection and outbound deployment for Notion, Google Calendar, Slack, and customer Linear workspaces still require provider credentials and their production connection workflows.

A saved version is an auditable statement of how the project was expected to run at that point in time. Later diagnostics create a new version instead of rewriting history, allowing teams to compare changed practices, roles, evidence, and profile conditions.

An error means the compiled model has a structural problem that can make a practice unusable, such as missing required evidence. A warning means the model can still run but should be reviewed, such as an ownership gap or evidence-rigor mismatch. Each finding includes a plain-language correction.

Use Guided view to understand and activate the model. Use Expert view when you need canonical method identities, conformance, capability boundaries, source references, compatibility, fingerprint evidence, or the compiler's decision trail.
